Coppers nick Claire's

South Yorkshire Police Band recently lined up some banding stars to assist in their preparation for the Yorkshire areas.
Some of banding's most talented musicians lead sectionals on "mountain views" ahead of the band's appearance in the first section at st George's Hall on march 4th.
Rob Westacott, Mark Walters, Mike Kilroy, John Ingman (ex brighouse bass trombone) and James Brincat Smith (Carlton Main and ex Grenadier guards percussionist) worked with sections of the band and MD Leigh Baker was delighted with progress made.

National Brass Band Finals - adjudicators comments

On Saturday 24th September 2011 the band performed in the national brass band finals at Cheltenham racecourse, Gloucestershire. Drawn from seventeen other regional qualifiers, the band played last and were awarded third place. This repeats last years third place and the band enter the Yorkshire 1st section in January 2012.

The band had a productive but warm afternoon at the annual Brighouse march and hymn tune Contest, winning the deportment prize and coming 10th overall. The band set off down Bethel Street, led by Corps of Drums and performed a countermarch to an appreciative audience. At the halt the band was conducted by MD Leigh Baker and played his new arrangement of Cwm Rhondda and the contest march Mephistopheles.

Police Recruit for Coastal Mission

The South Yorkshire Police Band are delighted to announce the signing of a new principal cornet in time for Butlins.  Leisa Mallelieu joins on the hot seat from Grange Moor and has also previous experience with Yorkshire Co-op and Flixton.
