Marched up to the top in Yorkshire
The band has just concluded a successful march season with a parade at an international football tournament at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster. Organised by local Police the event featured Adult and junior football teams with special guests from Spain.
Prior to the tournament starting, the band marched onto the pitch and entertained crowds with a variety of popular and sporting music including Blaze Away, Floral Dance, Cavatina, Out of the Blue, Match of the Day theme and both the Spanish and English National anthems. Conducted by Leigh Baker the band received a warm response from the hundreds of spectators.
The previous weekend saw the band crowned "Best Band on the March" at the Brighouse March Contest. Competing against 26 other bands, the band was placed 10th overall. This was the band's first appearance at Brighouse, but the warm reception from large crowds made for a pleasant day. Despite heavy showers, the sun shone through allowing Drum Major David Alderslade's booming voice to bring the band to attention before the band swaggered along Bethel Street to Blaze Away.
At the halt the band played the march 'Senator', with excellent solos from the band's principal Sam Fisher. Leigh Baker conducted his own very emotional and effective arrangement of Eventide.
The last weekend of June saw the Band appear at Easingwold, York to participate in the annual march contest. The tiny village square was packed as 16 bands marched around the square. The band was awarded best 2nd section band and was placed 4th overall.
