Police Band honour Normandy Veterans

York Minster, North Yorkshire Sunday 27th July 2008

Our last summer event was on a grand scale. Over 300 veterans from the Normandy Campaign of WWII attended the annual service of remembrance and reunion.
Despite temperatures in the 80's , the Minster was cool and tranquil. The band performed In Perfect Peace, Amazing Grace, 49th Parallel, In perfect Peace and Hymn to the Fallen as the veterans assembled.
2pm - the service of remembrance started and some very thought provoking comments were heard from NVA chaplain. The real highlight of the day was the Bands solo cornet, Ben Jowett playing the Last Post and Reveille from the grand Organ loft. The Last Post rang around the Minster.

After the service the veterans formed up ready for the parade and the band marched off to the march Standard of St. Geroge (Alford) switching to the Normandy Veterans Official March as the veterans passed the South Door where the NVA commanding Officer and Mayor of York took the salute.
