Sheffield Crown Court Letters Patent Ceremony
October sees the start of the Legal Year. It commences with a reading of the Letters Patent. This is an annual ceremony where the powers for the crown court to act are read out. This year the band provided a trumpeter to announce the arrival of events. We were joined by colleagues from our mounted department, the horse on the left taking a distinct dislike to the fanfare.
This tradition dates back centuries. More can be read at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letters_patent
